What you should know about whiplash

The Law Offices of Miller & Bicklein, P.C. |

If you can get out of your vehicle and walk away after a serious car crash in Texas, you may believe that, because you did not break any bones or sustain any visible wounds, you were not injured. Assuming you do not need medical attention could lead to serious consequences, though. We at The Law Offices of Miller Bicklein, P.C., have provided counsel to many victims of motor vehicle accidents.

According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, you may not experience symptoms of whiplash until several days after the collision. Neck pain or stiffness may be the most obvious results of this injury, but you may notice the pain in your back or shoulders, or you may also feel dizzy, or experience prickling or burning sensations, or headaches. While the vertebrae and discs of your neck and back may sustain damage, your muscles and ligaments could also be affected. Not only that, sensitive nerve endings and roots could be hurt, as well.

You may be even less likely to connect mental or psychological issues with your car accident. However, problems with concentration, fatigue and memory loss could be signs that you have whiplash. Depression, nervousness, and sleep issues may also be related.

A serious whiplash may need traction, physical therapy or a cervical collar. Even after a minor neck strain or sprain, your doctor may determine that you need an anti-inflammatory prescription or other pain medications. More information about injuries common to motor vehicle crashes is available on our web page.
